NEW YORK -- And so ends another chapter in one of baseball's most perplexing sagas. Some might call it downright embarrassing, the way the otherwise classy and entertaining
Minnesota Twins always manage to go belly-up in the presence of the
New York Yankees. Others, those who can't even spit out the name
Yankees without whining over their ginormous salaries, will say
MLB is getting exactly what it deserves -- lots of TV time with nothing to fill it now that the American League Division Series has sputtered, predictably and annoyingly for those who prefer their postseason last longer than most shampoo commercials.
It's as perennial as autumn leaves in Central Park, as banal as tourists flocking to Macy's. October after October after October, the Yankees turn a formidable
Twins team to mush. After putting the cherry atop Saturday night's ALDS suspense-less sweep -- New York 6, Minnesota 1 in Game 3, the Yankees now facing almost an entire week before they'll play again, the Twins staring at a winter of questions and discontent -- there really wasn't much left to say.
Ron Gardenhire said it anyway.
