MacWorld 2012 opened Jan. 26 in downtown San Francisco, and, although it is always one of the most interesting IT shows each year, this time it doesn't have quite the same panache as it has in the past. Attendance appears to be down somewhat, and there aren't nearly as many vendors showing their wares as in previous years. One of the main reasons for this is that Apple itself no longer participates; in fact, this is the third year since the mothership has pulled out of the event, which is staged by IDG World Expo. However, there are still plenty of relevant and imaginative products and services to see. Here in this slide show are a few of them. MacWorld 2012 continues through Jan. 28.
