Then the Giants won their fifth in Dallas Monday night, and on Tuesday, Tom Coughlin very uncharacteristically suggested that his team is right up there.
"There is so much parity (that) if we maintain a good, solid attitude, a humbleness about ourselves and our recognition of the quality of work that we have to do to put ourselves in a position to win, that we can go forth and play our best football in front of us,'' he said, although he hastily denied a followup question that suggested he was declaring his side the best team in the conference.
Still, it's only the NFC, the inferior conference by far. Hey, in FanHouse's weekly power rankings, the top six teams were all from the AFC.
So here's some love for the other guys.
Right now, New York is the best team in a conference that has been maligned primarily because the teams that were supposed to be the best have fallen on their faces: Dallas (inept); New Orleans (Super Bowl hangover); Green Bay (injuries) and Minnesota (desperation doesn't work)
But guess what?
An NFC team will be in the Super Bowl.
